HOBA’s TeamWorks series will bring 7 to 15 individuals together for a deeper volunteer experience that focuses on developmental disabilities in San Francisco. Volunteers will gain an in-depth understanding of the many different types of disabilities through a combination of volunteer projects, issue-based educational opportunities and discussion.
This series will take place during the last week of May through the end of June. There will be one activity, project or social event each week. Volunteers will learn the best ways to interact with individuals with different disabilities and how we can better accommodate their needs in our community.
Project Dates:
Wednesday, May 28 (5:30 - 8:00 PM): Kick off with a Learning Disability Training with Support for Families of Children with Disabilities (SFCD)
Thursday, June 5 (6:00 - 8:00 PM): Arts and Crafts at The Janet Pomeroy Center
Thursday, June 12 (6:45 - 8:00 PM): Laguna Honda Bingo Night
Wednesday, June 18 (5:30 - 7:00 PM): Special Olympics Golf
Sunday, June 22 (1:00 - 4:30 PM): Kids Enjoy Exercise Now (KEEN)
TBD: Potluck social and book discussion
(There is a possibility of an additional outing during either June 7th or 8th for the Special Olympics of Northern California Summer Games 2008 at UC Berkeley which will be optional)

TeamWorks Focus on Urban Farming East Bay April 2008 |
|
|
Join a team of 7-15 other volunteers to "dig" deep into the heart of food systems, distribution and access in urban communities in the East Bay. Have fun building new relationships with your team while building gardens in our communities!
This series will take place on Saturdays throughout the spring. Volunteers will learn about health and food access disparities facing our communities and will take direct action with leading organizations addressing this issue through creative solutions such as urban gardens, youth education and community farms.

April 12: Oakland Based Urban Gardens (Obugs) Work Day.
April 19: Film Screening: The Real Dirt on Farmer John.
April 26: The Edible Schoolyard's Organic Garden and Food Systems Classroom.
May 10: Spiral Garden's Community Food Security Project.
May 17: Berkely Youth Alternatives Garden Patch.
May 31: EcoVillage Farm Tour and Work Day.
June 7: Wrap-Up Panel Discussion: Transforming Interest into Action.
